Clan McIntosh |
Name: Robert W. Paine CommentsMy maternal grandparents were from Aberdeen. Grandpa was Robert Smith McAndrew; he and his father worked on the Oldmeldrum railroad before and up to 1921, when he emigrated to Canada. Later, he and Nana moved to Hartford CT. I've run into several brick walls attempting to find info about my great-grandfather, George Douglas McAndrew. If anyone has information or possible leads, I'd appreciate hearing from them. My kilt, BTW, is the hunting McIntosh. Presently, though, in respect for the Queen Mother, the black Stewart (mourning) tie is appropriate...also the only one I have for such occasion. Anyone know if there is a mourning tartan for our clan and if so, where I can find a necktie of same? Bob Name: Bruce Robert McIntosh CommentsName: Gary S. McIntosh CommentsMy McIntosh family came to overland in 1849 from New York and settled in San Joaquin County California. I know the family lived in Homer, Courtland County and in Cayuga. My GG Grandfather's name was Ruluf, his brother was Edwin, and I believe he had another brother named Silvertus. Their father was Jonathon McIntosh. If any of this sounds familiar to you, please contact me. Thanks, Gary McIntosh. P.S. I'm making a pilgrimage to Scotland this June with my son Zane McIntosh and my cousin Kenneth McIntosh. Bigman CommentsTo and for the McIntosh families and to whom it may concern; Thursday, January 10, 2002 I am the descendant of Archie McIntosh from my grandfather Donald McIntosh Jr. who was the grandson of Archie! Archie was the Chief of Scouts before, he was replaced by Al Sieber during the Apache conquest and skirmishes in southwestern United States ‘1800’s. Archie was also a very close friend to General George Crook and was personally requested to be the Chief of Scouts for Crook at San Carlos, Arizona. Archie was born in 1834 in Fort William, Ontario, Canada, his father worked for the Hudson Bay Company and was full Scot and his mother was Ojibwe or better known as the Chippewa Band of Lake Superior. At the age of twelve he was sent to Scotland where he was schooled for two years, then later completed his education at Vancouver, Canada. He briefly worked for the Hudson Bay Company and then in 1855 started his long career as a guide and scout for the United States Army. Archie seen many battles and fought in many skirmishes during his military career in the following states; Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California and later in Arizona. Archie built his ranch at the Black Mesquite Springs on the Pinto Creek, northwest of Globe, Arizona. He married a lady who was half Apache and they had one son, named Donald McIntosh. In his latter years, Archie regularly issued rations to the San Carlos Apaches, fifty miles east of Globe. Archie's military career was over after he was accused of inciting discontent among the Apaches he was fired by Captain Crawford, in spite of the many protest by Apache Chiefs. Archie later moved to San Carlos where he later died of cancer in 1902. His son Donald and Grandson Donald Jr., lived to an old age on the reservation and were well known Tribal Judges for the San Carlos Apache Tribe. I and many of my great, great grandfather's descendants lived on the San Carlos Apache Reservation and in various parts of the southwestern United States, though a few of us live elsewhere. Accounts of Archie McIntosh can be found in numerous history books of the southwest, such as; The Conquest of Apacheria, Al Sieber, Chief of Scouts and also in Clan Chattan, Vol. IV, No. 2, 1960, "An Apache Branch of Clan McIntosh." To the readers of this short summary of the accounts of Archie McIntosh, I would greatly appreciate your contributions to any additional history and or references that may aide me in building an accurate historical bibliogarphy of Archie's life. Very sincerely, Barney R. Bigman/ Grandson of Donald McIntosh Jr. and his wife Lottie F. McIntosh, my most beloved Legal Guardians.
