Bolinger CommentsWonderful site. I am tracing my Grandmother's line back as follows: Helena McINTOSH, , B: 11/17/1911, P: Gouveneur, St Lawrence Co, NY married Joseph Raymond RAY, B: 9/28/1893, Burnsville, Yancey Co, NY. Helena d/o Frank McINTOSH, B: 1858, D: 1927, married Amelia SHERTRAW, B: 11/1/1863, P: Gouveneur, NY. I have been given information that Frank McINTOSH's father is Ephraim McINTOSH, B: 1777, D: 1846 s/o of John McINTOSH, B&P Unk, and that John was the son of Alexander McINTOSH, B: 1733, P: Inverness, Scotland. The problem with all this is that I am getting conflicting info from St Lawrence Co records. I know for a fact that my Great Grandfather Frank McINTOSH had brother's Alexander and David, and a sister, Mrs John FOY(FOYE); however, when I access St Lawrence records and obits, I get a David, Alexander, and Ephraim McINTOSH's with indications that the family came from France(?), therefore, I don't know if I have the right family. I had always been told by family members that are heritage was Scot, that Frank's father first came to America from Quebec, and that the first McINTOSH I am decended from came to Quebec, married a Canadian Indian lady, possibly named AMOON, and then came across the border to St Lawrene Co, NY. I have found on the Canadian internet site only one reference of a Donald McINTOSH marrying an Unknow Canadian Indian woman. I need all the help I can get to figure this puzzle out. I would appreciate any help anyone cares to give.

Name: Stephen McIntosh CommentsInteresting to see so many American McIntosh's, and so few from this side of the pond! Good luck to those looking for links to James's and Alexander's McIntosh, family history is absolutely riddled with them. We buried my grandfather - James Alexander - in Duffton, Scotland in 1994, and the every other headstone in the church related to a James Alexander or an Alexander James, all the way back to Viking times!! If anyone can get their hands on a bottle of 'Duffton' Scotch wiskey, the house shown on the label was the birthplace of my grandfather. Also, if you're visiting Scotland, get yourselves to Duffton and go to the Commercial Hotel, which is owned by my father's aunt. They'll show you how to drink.

Name: Ivy Flint Stanger CommentsMcIntoshs'RULE!!! and rightly so. My descendant, Benjamin McIntosh(my 6thggf) came over in 1736 to Georgia with Oglethorpe. Don't have much info on him. would love to know more if there is anyone out there who knows. I'm guessing he may have relocated to Charleston, S.C. ~ 1745 from Darien from info I've read. Benjamin and Catherine are known to have had 3 children John, Winewood and Roderick. John was the father of William who had an Indian son Chief William. I have lots of info on Roderick (my 5thggf) who had one daughter with Christina Mathewson. Marianna McIntosh married William Mills. Over the past year I have collected a great deal of info concerning this group of McIntoshes who arrived in Ga. 1736 and have discovered some very good books on these people. Including a genealogy that traces back to 11th century. They were truly amazing, remarkable people. They started with nothing in the coastal woods of Georgia, fought the Spanish and apparently befriended the Indians making their mark in American history. I haven't had the time to put it together in any organized fashion but hope to some time soon. Will be glad to share what I know with anybody out there interested in the 1736 arrival of McIntosh to Georgia. Anyone out there know more about Benjamin & Catherine???

Her father was John Wiley McIntush, mother was Leira Ann "Lettie" Boyd, born in Ark. and Mo., respectively.
