Clan McIntosh |
I will be glad to visit with any "cousins". I am
a teacher in a small town in Washington State. I will be joining
all my brothers and sisters in August for a reunion and plan to
bring copies from these pages to show them the fun of the
internet.I have so many cousins that I haven't met along with now
all you distant cousins. My father was James McIntosh and his
father was Duncan McIntosh. They came from Canada originally.
E-mail me at orrnest@televar.com if you want to visit..... I was searching on the internet with my name 'Eggie' (it is
not my real first name, but everybody call me so) and so I came
on your sept-page. If anyone knows something more about the name
"Eggie", please, e-mail me. Your page is very colorful,
and I will take time to see more of it.... I'm just getting started with looking for my family
history. I have the name Gray now as a former married name and
wish I would have kept my maiden name of McIntosh. If my cousins
see this, I say hello to them and look forward to seeing all of
you at the reunion in July. This is a well designed site full of wonderful graphics,
and information for those of Clan MacIntosh as well as interest
for those of Scottish heritage. Well Done! Great Page. I've been hoping someone would place a page
like this for the Clan. Just got back from the Lock Sloy Games in
Fort Erie, and was sadly disappointed by how few Mackintoshes
were there. I am trying to get a Clan Mackintosh page up for
Canada soon and hope to list the summer games in Ontario and
up-state New York. Nice legs!!!!! My grandfather and I have been searching for history on our
family for many years. I would be glad to here from anyone who
could help us in our search. Any historical information about the
origin of McIntosh's, or any other information would be greatly
appreciated. Really enjoyed your page, looking for McIntosh's in KY,
Breathitt & Magonfin counties. If these are your lines please
contact me.Keep up the good work. What a pleasure to find this page. Hope to visit again soon Nice page! Keep up the good work...I'll be back later when
I have more time! Hi, Just a short note to let you know that I found your
site during one of my surfing sessions. I have just decided to
see if I can chase as much of my family tree as possible. This is
a good start. I live in Coffs Harbour on the east coast of
Australia. My father (David McIntosh) and mother (Margaret
Elizabeth McIntosh - nee Wibley) live in Nelson Bay, about 400 Km
down the coast from Coffs. We came to Australia in 1953 when I
was 6 years old. If anyone thinks they have some connection I
would love to hear from them. Regards, Brian. Nice page, Todd! I wish my father (Alexander Day
Mackintosh) and grandfather (Alexander Mackintosh I), both avid
genealogists who pursued Clan Chattan with a passion, had
survived to see what the marvels of technology could have done to
ease their task. I have memories of hours spent at my dad's side
as he searched for relevant tombstones in New England graveyards
in order to add to his vast data on the Family. Grand dad came
from Inverness in 1893, or 1894, with 18 cents in his pocket. He
changed the spelling of his name to get a scholarship at NYU
(they already had a "McIntosh" on scholarship!) and
went on to become quite a fine architect (e.g. the B. Altman
building in NYC). My dad was an architect, too, but I broke the
chain to become a kind of jack-of-all-trades: I'm now 16 years
into my 5th career. At 51, the kilt I bought in Scotland and wore
to my high school prom still fits. My eldest son (Brooks) wore it
to his graduation from Penn last year. My youngest (Alexander
III) is currently at Georgia Tech. I still have some of my dad's
research results and would welcome e-mail inquiries from those
looking for kin. I just had to sign your guestbook and thank you SO much for
your wonderful site. It's the best I've found for information on
our sometimes reclusive ancestors! My interest in genealogy is
deeply-rooted, as I was adopted as a baby and never knew (though
I constantly wondered) where "my people" came from,
"what" I was--until I reunited with my birthmother four
years ago, and contacted my birthfather about a year ago (he's
the McFall). When I divorced, I decided I had to take my
"real" family's name. Now I've been desperately
searching for information on the name and the family--like where
they came from, their clan affiliation (if any), interesting
history, etc. It seems like every source I find gives another
version of the McFalls' clan affiliation: I've seen it associated
with Clan Chattan (with no others mentioned), MacIntosh, McKay,
MacPherson...it was becoming maddening! :-) Anyway, I'll stop
gushing. THANK YOU for clearing up so much history for me. You've
made my quest a bit easier. Bless you, cousin! :-D Laura McFall
Northern Arizona University Great Page!! I'll be back when I have more time to look
around. Would like to find more information on the Mcintosh Clan.
My GGGGrandmother was Jacintha McIntosh who married Thomas
P. Randolph in 1820 I am 18 and have been curious about my clan. I plan to
explore your (or our) clan's home page. I'm pleased to see the Clan has an internet site and
anxious to establish communication with Clan members worldwide.
My ancestors are Canadian, with my father born in Biggar, Sask
before moving on to Vancouver. Wife Cheryl, son Stuart and I
visited Moy and Mackintosh several years ago - and we're looking
forward to a return in the near future. Married a Dallas. Also of Clan MacLean International. Thumbs up! Great Page! Anybody interested in Japan, Please
feel free to contact me, I am conversant in Japanese, and since I
am living and studying here, I would be happy if I could help
answer any of your questions about Japan. My field of study is
International Business/Economics and Japanese Studies. My number
is [Japan] (45) 583-7994. I'm always happy to hear from a
McIntosh, or a friend. My grandfather, John Adamson, was born near Milnathorp,
Scotland in 1899. We are apparently a small branch of the clan
Macintosh. Can any one tell me any more about the Adamsons of
clan Macintosh? Great page! I am sixth generation born in the USA, all in
Washington, D.C. My Scottish descendant who came to the US was
Thomas McIntosh. He was the son of Andrew (or Andrie) and
Janet(?) McIntosh in Inverness, Scotland, some time in the late
1700's (he died in Washington, D.C. on May 16, 1845). He was the
oldest of three children: Thomas, Andrew and Mary. Thomas'
great-grandson, my great-grandfather, changed the spelling of the
family last name to Mackintosh, sometime during his life (1893 to
1934). I would be very interested in finding more about my
Scottish family tree, and others who descended from Andrew and
Janet(?). If anyone can help me, I'd very much appreciate it.
Thanks! My ancestry goes back to to George McIntosh who died in
1839 in the parish of Tongue on the northern coast of Scotland.
Knowledge of the tree stops there because one of the parish
Ministers went mad and burned all the parish records! Most of the
sons emigrated -- to Canada, USA, Australia, and New Zealand. A
great page. I enjoyed reading the notes. Will pass on the URL to
our family historian. Born in Atlanta, GA. Looking forward to visiting with more McIntoshes and hope
that somebody will be able to help with the family tree. I really love this page....It's a way all of us can unite,
due to our bloodlines. I am a student at the Faculty of Chemistry
at the City of Chihuahua in the northern Mexican state of
Chihuahua, and I would love to keep e-mail contact with any
person that shares this Clan. My mother was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1911 and came to
oz when she was 6 years old. She always had a dream to return but
never did. She would have been very proud to see your home page -
great stuff. See ya, jimmy Great page! My father's name is John McIntosh. My late
grandfather was Kenneth J. McIntosh of Uticai, NY. I was born and
raised in Greece. My mother is Greek. We moved to the US 3 years
ago. It is good to see the clan on the web. I am looking for a
good Highland Games in Texas to go to. Would love to hear from
somebody. I am a member of the Clan MacIntosh of North America
Society and would like to hear from other Society member also.
Thank You. Very nice, and about time! I'll add a link to the Clan
Mackintosh Home Page on my page: http://www.idir.net/~cdauten/
Keep up the good work! Excellent site! I am of the sept Glennie. My spelling is a
common derivation. I'm interested in all things Scottish - The
clan must unite! Eirich as a Ghleanan! Touch not the cat bot a
glove! It's time to get the clan back together again! The internet
is way this can happen! Glad to be here... Andrew McIntosh Marvelous to see such a site on the web! I'm keen to find
any other McIntoshes closely related. I know back as follows: Great page Todd! My family is 2nd generation Canadian. My
grandfather, James Alexander McIntosh was born Oct.12,1888 in
Dufftown, Scotland and came to Canada in the early 1900's. My
father Gordon Probert McIntosh was born in Montreal March 29,
1917. During WWII, my father served in England and North West
Europe in the RCA 5 Medium Regiment Serial 507. During some of
his leaves he visited the Highlands and Dufftown. I plan to visit
Scotland next Spring. Thanks for your page. I believe after the clan finally burned their last village
and decided to come to the USA, they settled in or around Chicago
Illinois. I think I heard my dad's dad saying something about his
father beginning around Chicago. He said his father had four sons
at least, and some went into Canada, and some went central USA
(Iowa). My dad's name was Audrey Cleo McIntosh II. Well, glad to
see this on internet - the saying up here in Minot is - Why not
Minot? Freezin's the Reason! See you all maybe later! TUM Very interested in your web page for obvious reasons. I
have had the pleasure of visiting Moy Lodge and meeting The
Mackintosh. This is an interesting site, and it would be good to see
this grow. As best as my knowledge is, the first within my own
genealogy to settle in Canada was Duncan McIntosh in the 1850's
in Almonte Ontario, which is near Ottawa. Our family, immediate,
remains largely in Canada, and my Grandfather (b. 1901) who was
born in Almonte died in 1995 -- Gordon Fraser McIntosh. All the
best. R. Daniel McIntosh (dept. of Philosophy, York University)
Our family has kept a fairly comprehensive family tree, which is
not at my finger tips, but I would be happy to share any history
which I can. mcintosh@nexus.yorku.ca I've just added some graphics that might be general
interest at http://visi.com/~mdm/family/mcintosh.html. I'm the
son of Ray Cannon McIntosh, of Edward Sherman McIntosh, of George
William McIntosh, of George Washington McIntosh, of Neil
McIntosh, of Alexander McIntosh, who left Skye in 1772 for North
Carolina. This is great. Where did you find the great background on
the first page Nice work, Todd. I'd be interested in seeing more details
of the clan history in it. Glad to see the McIntosh Clan going Internet! I look
forward to the development of information etc. Interested in finding out where the Thomson name came from.
No one in my family knows the answer to that. I was born in
Glasgow and moved to Oz 10 years ago. My McIntosh ancestor was Amelia McIntosh. She was born in
Ireland in 1774 and died in IN in 1843. She married William
Chamberlain. Their oldest children were born in PA late 1790s. I
hope someday to trace her family back to Scotland. Thanks for the
Clan information. Duncan McIntosh, his wife, and infant son came to America
at the time of the revolution. Several generations lived near New
Boston, N.C. The family moved to Dallas in the late 1800s, when
two brothers, a Dentist and a Physician, set up practices there.
Perhaps some day I will type the rest to my home page. Nice Page ! Thanks for letting me know ! Nice Page Todd. My Great Aunt tells me that my family are
direct descendant of John McIntosh (1777-1846) a new Canadian
settler at Dundela in Dundas County, Ontario who discovered the
"McIntosh Apple" in 1811. John McIntosh found a wild
apple tree among the remnants of an abandoned farmhouse near his
home. Apples were hard to come by and he transplanted the tree
onto his own land. When the apples ripened, they were the best he
had ever tasted, the neighbors agreed. However, the seeds of
apples do not produce exactly the same variety of tree, so he
could not produce any more apples than the one tree would bear.
The art of grafting was applied to solve the problem and John's
son Alan set up a business travelling around the area selling
branches of the tree. In 1906, the original tree on John's farm
stopped bearing fruit. Still today, every McIntosh tree in the
world and every McIntosh apple eaten are descendants of that
original tree. I just wanted to let all the McIntosh's out there
know the history of the McIntosh apple. Hi there, The only registered Mackintosh to be actually
born in the Highlands of Scotland, not very far away from the
clan homelands of Moy (near Inverness). Lived and was raised
there with the family (there are 6 other mackintoshs of my
generation still living near Inverness). Moved to Edinburgh in
1988 to start Uni and I'm still there, although I'm now a
researcher in the Chemistry department, at Edinburgh Uni. Contact
address in Edinburgh is Flat 3F2, 251 Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh
EH16 5JS Scotland U.K. or at Chemistry Department, University of
Edinburgh, West Mains Road, Edinburgh EH9 3JJ Scotland U.K. Hello all you distant cousins out there. Come to Scotland
and visit me, and see the country of your ancestors. It's very
nice, especially when it isn't raining. The McIntosh connection is on my wife's side. She was the
last of her McIntosh line, the youngest of an all-female McIntosh
generation, so we decided to keep the name when we got married.
Her father is Peter McIntosh, born and bred in Edinburgh,
Scotland. I'll make sure he sees this page! Nice Page!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME FROM A LARGE FAMILY OF MCINTOSH'S I'M ONE OF SIX, MY
GRANDFATHER(DEC) WAS ONE OF NINE. Looking for help in finding when my line of McIntosh's
first came to the US from Scotland. Have traced back to late
1700's in New York to William & Hannah Finger McIntosh. This
Home Page is a great resource for all McIntosh's. Hi Todd, thought I would say hello! Nice page. Is the gif
of you? While my proximate ancestors came from County Caven,
Ireland, I'm sure they got there from the marshes of Scotland.
What a great page. I'll come back often to watch it grow. Congratulations on your good Scotch site. MY DAUGHTER IS DOING A PAPER FOR COLLEGE ON FAMILY HISTORY.
WANTED TO FIND INFO ON MACINTOSH'S FROM NOVA SCOTIA - ST.PETERS I am interested in the McIntosh clan because of my son,
Clinton William Wallace McIntosh of Jacksonville, Florida. His
Father, Chester Alvin Cyril McIntosh, was born in the British
West Indies; a small island called Bequia. Your internet mom is very impressed! Would like to hear from other McIntoshes doing family
research Outstanding work!! Your dedication is to be admired!! Excellent work! I've got a copy of Lady Mackintosh's
history, which has some good photographs. Are you interested in
more graphics? Two thumbs up! Great graphics and loads of information!
Who's the guy with the pipes? Please give me any comments or suggestions you have about
the Clan McIntosh Home Page. |
